In a medium bowl, we’re adding 120 grams or one cup of all-purpose flour. Perfect! Half a teaspoon of baking soda for leavening, and half a teaspoon of salt for contrast. Now, I’m adding a third of a cup or 33 grams of cocoa powder. You could use Dutch-processed cocoa powder or natural cocoa powder; both will be delicious.

I’m adding half a cup or 113 grams of room-temperature unsalted butter, a third of a cup of granulated sugar (66 grams), and half a cup of light brown sugar (110 grams). Mix for about three minutes until it’s light and fluffy. Scrape the bowl down if needed.

Now, add one large egg and two teaspoons of vanilla extract. I have a favorite flavoring to add, and if you can guess it, I’ll be impressed. Mix until combined. This smells so good!

Now, we’ll add our flour mixture while mixing on low. Mix until almost combined, and there will be one more scrape. Once that’s done, add 1 cup of chocolate chips and mix just until they’re distributed. Give it a final scrape to ensure everything is combined.

Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies

Scoop out about one and a half tablespoon-sized pieces of dough onto a baking sheet, giving them about two inches of space. Optionally, pop some chocolate chips on top.

If you like, sprinkle some big-flaked salt on top before baking.
